What is an Amazon Seller SKU?
SKU or Seller SKU, short for Stock Keeping Unit, refers to a unique identifier or code that defines a particular stock keeping unit on your Amazon inventory. The SKU is one of the most critical piece of data in every inventory file that you submit to Amazon. Amazon uses your SKUs in your inventory file to associate your products with the appropriate product detail page in Amazon’s catalog. In other words, every product in your inventory file must have a unique SKU, and once you defined it, an existing SKU cannot be changed; it remains in the Amazon catalog until you delete it.
A seller SKU can be seen by you only, and Amazon creates its inventory reports based on this information. It can contain any number or letter combination that you want, but there is a 40-character limit. You could just keep it simple or use Amazon’s auto-generated SKU numbers, however, most of the experienced Amazon sellers include many useful information into the SKU and by looking at the SKU only, they can extract some key information without using any inventory report.
For more information about SKU, its usage, etc. you can visit this Wikipedia article or Amazon user guide on SKU.
What is ASIN?
ASIN, short for Amazon Standard Identification Number, is a 10-character alphanumeric unique identifier assigned by Amazon.com for product identification within the Amazon organization.
For books, 10-digit ISBN, short for International Standard Book Number, and the ASIN are the same in all Amazon marketplaces. On the other hand, for all other products, a new ASIN is created when the item is uploaded to the Amazon catalog.
Initially, ASIN was unique in all Amazon marketplaces but later on, this concept has changed. The same ASIN may refer to different products in different Amazon marketplaces. For this reason, while converting SKU to ASIN you need to select the desired Amazon Marketplace. For all Amazon marketplaces, you can visit this page.

Parent ASIN
On Amazon, millions of items have variations, such as different sizes of a shoe or different colors of a dress, etc. Amazon sets a parent ASIN for such products and assigns different ASINs to each variation.
