Amazon Seller Fees for FBA and FBM

Every seller, no matter an FBA or an FBM seller, wants to know the details of the costs and fees to sell on Amazon. In this article, you’ll find the break down of these fees and costs for any type of seller.

Monthly Subscription Fees

Amazon Professional Sellers pay a monthly subscription fee of $39.99 for US and Canada marketplaces and £25 for 6 European marketplaces (DE, ES, FR, IT, NL, UK). If you’re a merchant selling more than 40 items per month, this is the best option for you. With this monthly subscription, you’ll get many benefits including these:

  • You can list unlimited products
  • You can upload your products in bulk
  • You will have inventory management and detailed reports on Seller Central
  • You can offer gift wrap to your customers
  • You can hire developers or use many Amazon seller tools, such as Turbo Piranha
  • You can even get a developer Id for yourself if you are planning to develop in-house software solutions using MWS web services.

On the other hand, if you’re selling less than 40 items, you can also choose the Individual Selling Plan where you’ll pay only $0.99 per item sold. However, the Individual Selling Plan is very limited in comparison and requires a lot of manual effort to manage.

Amazon Sellers Fees Common for both FBA and FBM

Both individual and professional Amazon Sellers can pick either FBA (Fulfillment by Amazon) or FBM (Fulfillment by Merchant) method for the delivery of the sold items. The Amazon Seller Fees below are common for both FBA and FBM fulfillment methods.

Referral Fees

All seller plans require payment of referral fees which are a percentage of your product’s selling price. These fees can range from 6% up to 45% based on the product category but most of the sellers pay an average of 15%. Most of the categories also have a minimum referral fee amount, usually $0.30, so if your selling price is so low, then you pay this amount instead of the percentage of your selling price. Check out Amazon’s full list of referral fees by category for USA, Canada, Mexico, France, Germany, Italy, UK, Spain, and the Netherlands.

Variable closing fees

Amazon charges a variable closing fee for the products sold under Media categories. It’s a flat $1.80 fee which is added on top of referral fees for the items in any Media category. Media categories include books, software, computer/video games, video game consoles, DVDs and music.

Refund Admin Fee (Only for refunded items)

If you refund a customer for an order for which you have already received payment, Amazon will refund you but you will be charged an applicable Refund Administration Fee, which is the lesser of $5.00 or 20% of the applicable referral fee. On the other hand, for regular sales, i.e. if there is no refund, you also don’t pay anything.

Rental book service fees

If you sell textbook rentals, you will also pay a rental book service fee of $5.00 for each rental.

High-volume listing fees

When you have a high volume of active, non-media listings that have not sold in 12 months, Amazon charges a monthly fee of $0.005 per eligible listing to cover cataloging costs. Amazon waives this fee for the first 100,000 listings.

FBA Fees

Order Fulfillment Fees

FBA sellers are charged an order fulfillment fee for each sale shipped from Amazon Warehouses. These fees vary depending on product size and also weight. Dimensional Weight is used by Amazon to calculate these fees.

Monthly storage fees

Monthly storage fees are charged for all items stored in an Amazon fulfillment center based on their dimensions. Please keep in mind that, Amazon charges different rates for the months between January and September, and between October and December.

Long-term storage fees

Amazon charge FBA sellers long-term storage fees for the items that have been stored in their fulfillment centers longer than 6 months and longer than 12 months. For this reason, you should consider planning your orders based on your approximate sales numbers to avoid this fee.

Conclusion
